Jax climbs the corporate ladder and knows all the ropes.
A few years ago Impact was looking for a kick-ass lighting designer. This tattooed chick with big boots and a Chaucer fetish showed up. Jacqueline Steager had answered the call, and a beautiful friendship was born.
Jax holds a BA in drama from Loyola University New Orleans—yeah baby! Jesuits!—and an MFA in theatrical design from San Francisco State University. She's a lighting designer all the time except when she's off doing secret bad-guy-destructo things for the government. (What, you think we're kidding? Not fucking kidding.) In addition to being devoted to Impact, she's also a company member of fellow theatrical punks the Renegade Theatre Experiment in San Jose, she does design and technical stuff in all kinds of small theatres around the bay, and she's a rock and roll concert tech, too.
Lighting isn't Jax's only talent. Her throat-slitting rig for a production of Titus Andronicus shot stage blood ten feet. In fact, her theatrical career thus far has pretty much been characterized by sex and violence, and that's how she likes it. If you'd like to see pretty pictures of her work, including a fair amount of gore, they're at batfishlighting.com.
On the other side of the pond, Jax is a founder of & technical director for a venue company at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and you'll probably find that the state of her liver reflects that fact.
