The Sincerest Form of Flattery: Deep Impact Theatre

Gasp! We have imitators! OK, one imitator. It's something I never thought would happen, and now that I'm confronted with it, I have to say that it's a combination of flattering, entertaining, and annoying, much like the male clientele at the Mallard.

They're called "Deep Impact Theatre," and no, they're not the porn version of Impact. That would be far too good to be true, not to mention slightly redundant. They hail from San Jose State. Behold: www.deepimpacttheatre.com.

Get this: They're doing Othello.

Be forewarned if you go to the website: the writing is abysmal and their mission is exceedingly pompous and self-important ("Above all Deep Impact is about disturbing the natural order of theater and life itself"-- Good luck with that, kids), but it looks like they're good kids working hard at it, so give them the benefit of the doubt. If you're in the South Bay, check 'em out. Anyone who wants to be an Impact Theatre mini-me has to be at least a little bit cool, no?

Not only are they doing Othello, but Othello is being played by a woman. Hmmm...sounds strangely familiar. "Like you've never seen it done before", eh? I think not, Deep Impact, I think not.

Yes but do they have the Bionic Woman, Darth Vader, and TONS of Hot Naked Pin ups?

Yeah...too bad...

I "HEE HEE'd" at this post! I was actually surprised when I saw their website. In any event, I have impacttheatre.com bookmarked now.

:D
