Octopus KICKS ASS

Last night, DMW and I saw opening night of Octopus by Steven Yockey at the Magic, and it was wonderful. The final moment is honestly one of the best things I have EVER seen in the theatre.

The script is fantastic, the set is gorgeous and perfect, and the acting is truly great.

The standout performance was given by Patrick Alparone, who was absolutely wonderful. I know Patrick, and I'm very familiar with his acting (he was Impact's Hamlet, as well as Shithead in Nicky Goes Goth), so I expected his performance to be excellent, but this was some of the best acting I've ever seen anywhere. So detailed, so nuanced, so complex, so sweet, so charming, so moving. If he doesn't get at least a Critics Circle nomination for this, I'm going to go Courtney Love on them.

Another standout was Brad Erickson. He's the Executive Director of Theatre Bay Area, and he turned in a wonderful, fearless performance, which proves (as if we needed even more proof) that the SF Bay Area has the kick-assingest theatre service org run by the biggest badass in the nation.

So hightail it out to Fort Mason-- and be prepared to pay a bit for parking. Although it's definitely the cheapest parking in San Francisco, it's still annoying that they started charging. But whatever-- it's wellllllllllllllll worth it.
