I Want to Fuck This Play [Guest Post by Prince Gomolvilas]

As a playwright, I'm far too much of a narcissist to endorse anyone else's plays. I mean, saying a good word or two about a colleague only serves to undermine the idea of my solipsistic reign over the theater world. So on the rare occasion that I do end up expressing some enthusiasm, it's either because I want to fuck somebody involved in the production or I want to fuck the very play itself because I genuinely believe in its genius.

I want to fuck Ching Chong Chinaman.

I had the opportunity to read an excerpt from Lauren Yee's play when I sat on an arts panel. From those short scenes alone, I knew that Yee was somebody to watch--here was a playwright who at a relatively young age had already established a strong, original, and fiercely funny voice. When I saw a staged reading of the entire play at a theater conference in Minneapolis, my inklings about her immense talent were confirmed.

While Ching Chong Chinaman is rooted in Asian-American identity politics, its pointed explorations of the American Family and the American Dream will speak to anyone who has ever questioned their place in the world. Sounds like heady stuff, but Yee's effortless knack for comedy will make you laugh--and those laughs will sting. It's a tightrope she's walking, and she pulls it off with the grace and gusto of a seasoned pro.

Impact Lovers, SEE THIS PLAY. Work of this nature doesn't get supported by the mainstream, so I'd like Impact Theatre to find great success with this production for being so bold and taking such a risk with the material. And who knows? You may end up wanting to fuck this play too. And then it would be like a theatrical gangbang! And that doesn't happen every day.
