Chili!

Impact participated in Crowded Fire's second annual Chili Cookoff this weekend. Just like last year, we had a blast -- and we brought home an award.

After slaving over our stoves for a day or so, we got to the San Francisco LGBT Center on Saturday and set up for an afternoon of chili, bluegrass (courtesy of the Duck River Band), and a generally awesome time on a beautiful day. Props go to Crowded Fire for putting on another great event, a fun fundraiser that was a benefit for all the theatre companies that participated.

Impact, Crowded Fire, Killing My Lobster, and PlayGround each submitted three entries to the competition: a traditional no-beans, no-pasta chili, a vegetarian chili, and an "anything-goes" chili.

And anything went.

Last year we won that category for our North African Wild Ostrich chili. Evidently we raised the bar, because this year the entries went to the next level: we brought our Impact Cast Party, which was essentially a chili-infused Bloody Mary, but we were equally impressed by other entries, especially PlayGround's chili-spiced brownies.

Competition was just as fierce in the other categories, and when the smoke cleared (from the fire in our throats), we took down the audience favorite for our Berkeley Veggier-Than-Thou vegetarian chili.

Aside from gorging ourselves on all the different chilis, it was just great to hang out with theatre friends and fans. So strange to see these people in daylight!

All in all, a fantastic day. Make sure you clear your schedule (and your palate) for next year's throwdown. It's gonna be a scorcher.
