Impact playwright blacklisted!

...and, as it turns out, that's actually a good thing. A recent issue of Entertainment Weekly let readers in on "The Black List," a Hollywood thing that's been going on for a few years: a studio exec polls other execs around town to gauge the couple hundred hottest scripts of the year. The list has helped scripts get crucial studio attention; Juno and Lars and the Real Girl might never have been made without their appearances on the list. This year's top ten unproduced scripts include one called Fuckbuddies (expect asterisks on the movie poster) by Liz Meriwether. Impact fans may think that name sounds familiar, and it is: back when she went by Elizabeth Meriwether, we produced a play of hers called Nicky Goes Goth. Congrats on hitting The Black List, Liz!

CCC and Jukebox named two of the top ten plays of 2008

The East Bay Express has included two Impact shows in its top ten plays of 2008! Theatre critic Sam Hurwitt says Ching Chong Chinaman (#3 on the list) gave this season "a thunderous start" and calls last season's Jukebox Stories: The Case of the Creamy Foam (#5) "endlessly entertaining." Sam notes in his intro that he saw more than 100 shows this year; to be in the top ten even once would be an honor, but appearing twice is truly flattering. Our friends at Shotgun were also listed twice (including the #1 slot), and Berkeley Rep has three mentions (plus an honorable for The Arabian Nights, one of my favorite shows ever at Berkeley Rep). It's a great way to close out the year. See you in 2009!
